Æther

6 Songs (20:15)
released February 23, 2024

Welcome to my ethereal story, featuring the lovely voice of Grimes on vocals, via GrimesAI and collaboration with Elf Tech.

I had wanted to do some songs with the GrimesAI vocal ever since I heard about it back in June, ‘23. I set to work on December 10th, and finished the project by the end of December. The project involved resurfacing content from old computers for songs I had written in 2006 under the moniker “Seoup T. Gei” as part of songfight.org, as well as content from songs written in 2010 when I was recovering from hand surgery, plus new renditions of two of my previously-released songs, songs that I had always intended to have sung by someone with a voice like Grimes’.

This six-song EP is a story about a being struggling to cope with their own self awareness, humanity, and emotions. I felt like each song sort of portrays a condition: (1) low self-esteem & anger/rage (2) manic episodes (3) borderline behavior (4) despair & depression (5) schizophrenia, and finally (6) institutionalization. The story ends with a single flat-line note played on an organ, representing a heart that has stopped beating.

This little work of art is just a little prayer for those who suffer from the often-silent torture of mental illness.

As part of this project, I’ve set up a little donation page at the NAMI. No money goes to me.

Lastly, I’m very grateful to Grimes for allowing fools like me to play with her voice. It was a fair amount of work to get it to sound like it does (for example, I had to re-sing every line of every song with a strong attention to staying on pitch and using crystal-clear diction) but it was a heck of a cathartic good time making it! Guest

2 Songs (7:00)
released September 23, 2023

My latest single and B-side. These two songs feature the drumming of Steven Joyce on "Guest" & Jamie Anderson on "Not Jesse's Girl".

"Guest" aims to paint a picture of two characters, and the feelings these characters might have when meeting for the first time; a bit of awkwardness, apprehension, insecurity, anxiety, but it's a peaceful, comfortable place and an easy feeling being with each other. By the end, they're friends.

The song started when we were commiserating about recording gear and recording songs back in Jan/Feb, so we figured we'd fire up an idea, so I sat down one night with my electric guitar, created and recorded a guitar part with a scratch vocal, sent it over to Steve who started some first takes on the drums, and a song was born. We worked on it here and there for about six months, completely remotely.

"Not Jesse's Girl" started as a live guitar/drums jam with Jamie and I at my place back in November '22. Sometime in February '23 I re-recorded a couple guitars and a rough vocal, and then we got together again at my place and recorded the final drum and bass tracks together, live. I re-recorded guitars and vocals, and there it is. The riff sort of sounded like an 80s rock song so that's how it got the working title, which we ended up just keeping the title and the words are sort of just a fun play on the idea of a high school romance or such.

A dream of mine would be to hear these songs in a Seth Rogen-style comedy movie. Links below to these songs on different platforms.

Frostbitten

A nostalgic single, echoing the sounds of late 80’s/early 90’s alternative rock. Links to it on a handful of streaming platforms, below!

Sunrise & Sunset

11 Songs (41:11)
released November 11, 2022

The latest full album — Sunrise & Sunset — is kind of like a personal journey of a day in my life, when it feels like the days are just a continuous loop of sunrises and sunsets. This album features acoustic guitars, strings, drums and various percussion, Matt Tahaney on track 8, John Fauller’s handmade C12 microphone on 7 out of 11 of the album’s vocal tracks, and is filled with deep, introspective thoughts & feelings.

20/20

12 Songs (41:26)
released March 18, 2021

20/20 takes a look back to a historic year, full of change, pain, hope, and redemption. This album blends geysers of colorful guitars and synth tones, slinky and thick bass tracks, soulful, driving rhythms, and lush, memorable vocal passages; wrapped up in a pop/rock atmosphere reminiscent of early 2000s or late 90s alternative rock.

1 Song (3:07)
